The City of Hamilton identified the AEGD as an important economic engine for the future of Hamilton. Many studies have supported this. Current projections estimate that 20,000-30,000 jobs would be created with the development of the AEGD.
While the employment opportunities are important, the AEGD could mean even more. This is an opportunity to create something new and different in Hamilton – an environmentally sensitive, eco-industrial community with a character we can all be proud of.
The CLC’s vision for the AEGD.
“Our vision is to create a new and unique working community that is vibrant and visually appealing, where the natural and cultural heritage resources in the area have been preserved and used to establish a distinct character for the area. It will attract a range of airport related and other businesses providing both conventional and knowledge-based services.
The environmental footprint of the area will been managed through a range of sustainable design techniques and the character of the surrounding land uses protected through appropriate land use transitions and transportation planning.”
AEGD Vision and Objectives were developed based on results of the January 20, 2009 CLC Visioning Workshop.
