Our community will become the logistics centre of Canada, the envy of every other municipality.
Having played a role in the Hamilton logistics scene for more than four decades, I’ve had the opportunity to experience the sometimes rocky ride of an industry that is very much affected by upturns and downturns in the economy. Fiscal responsibility, innovative thinking and the ability to turn on a dime have brought us considerable success, but it hasn’t been easy.
It is this kind of thinking and forethought that will ensure the success of the Airport Employment Growth District. The AEGD is an unprecedented opportunity for Hamilton to create an image that will be the envy of the entire country. Developing these lands surrounding the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, while carefully protecting the natural environment, will give us the tools we need to compete in the world market. Only here will we have the perfect marriage of road, rail and air transportation combined with one of the finest ports on the Great Lakes.
At the centre of it all of course is a well run, reasonably priced airport. With no gridlock or congestion to deal with, the AEGD will become one of the most sought after employment and transportation centres in the country, if not the world! I know that innovation is the future of the transportation industry. And when it comes to innovation, this is big!
